design and build of a 56 place day nursery
Bedfordshire East Schools Trust and its partners wanted to bring health, education and children’s services together in one new building, which was to include a 56 place day nursery. They also wanted to be as environmentally sensitive as possible.
In a project lasting 20 months, we designed and built a building that minimised the demand for energy and achieved ‘exemplar status’ for its design and operational performance. The building used energy efficient lighting and heating systems and renewable energy technologies to deliver genuine carbon benefit. Its carbon neutral status has resulted in low operating costs and utility bills. The Trust is also able to sell the surplus back to the National Grid.
The project was delivered ahead of time and within budget and won a Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Central region Excellence Award
